Ricky Rubio Signs 4-Year, $55 Million Extension With With T-Wolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Ricky Rubio have reached an agreement on a four year, $55 million contract extension. Rubio averaged 11.5 points, 7.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game last season. This contract is a big moment for Rubio who has been playing professionally overseas since he was 14, the T-Wolves see him as one of the best point guards in the league and now they have paid him like one.

Rubio has a chance to earn up to another $1 million if his shooting percentage goes up.

Rubio signed a four-year extension of his rookie deal worth $55 million on Friday night. The deal includes another $1 million in incentives that kick in if he reaches certain shooting percentages.

The Timberwolves and Rubio’s agents, Dan Fegan and Jarinn Akana of Relativity Sports, have been negotiating for more than two months and had until midnight to reach a deal or Rubio would have become a restricted free agent after the season.

”I am happy to be staying with the Wolves and look forward to many successful seasons in Minnesota,” Rubio said in a statement issued Friday night. ”Our fans have been great and I am excited to be able to play in front of them for many years. I will continue to work hard to improve my game and help our team get better.”
