The Cavs need for a playmaker is one of the hottest stories in the NBA right now and it’s looking like it’ll be coming to a close soon. Lance Stephenson, Kirk Hinrich and Mario Chalmers have reportedly held workouts with the defending champions, but the Cavs are still open to trading for a point guard.
One of the names they have strong interest in is Mavs point guard Deron Williams. According to Amico Hoops Dallas is willing to trade the former All-Star for Iman Shumpert and a Cavs draft pick. One of the best PG’s of the late 2000’s, Williams has career averages of 16.6 points and 8.2 assists per game. A three-time All-Star, Williams 10 assists per game four times in his career and also won a Gold Medal alongside LeBron James at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and in 2012 in London.
The Mavericks would make a trade of guard Deron Williams to the Cavaliers for guard Iman Shumpert, but only if the Cavs included a draft pick, a league source told Amico Hoops.
Several reports have said the Cavs have an interest in Williams as a potential reserve point guard/playmaker.
