REPORT: Derrick Rose Wants To Return To Cavs

It’s been nearly a month since Derrick Rose played in a game for the Cavs. When he signed the veterans minimum with Cleveland this summer, the vision was that he’d showcase his abilities playing alongside LeBron James and do it in meaningful games in the postseason. James and other Cavs players were in awe of how good Derrick looked in training camp and preseason and were excited and ready to aid him in his journey to prove people wrong and regain his free agency value.

However, within just seven games of the season, Rose suffered an ankle injury which ended up mentally ejecting him from the game to the point where he seriously considered retirement. The 2011 NBA MVP, Rose reportedly told the Cavs he was just mentally drained from all the injuries and that he is taking time away to think about whether or not he wants to ever play again.

Well, with the Cavs set to take on Derrick’s former squad, his hometown Bulls on Monday at the United Center, Rose has reached out to the team to let them know he isn’t done yet and wants to return. The Cavs are expected to make an announcement regarding Rose’s status on Sunday. Via The Athletic:

1. Derrick Rose wants to come back. Where he fits now remains to be seen. Rose has been in contact with Cavs GM Koby Altman in recent days and has expressed a desire to return, The Athletic has learned. The Cavs are expected to have an announcement regarding Rose on Sunday.

2. Tyronn Lue said before the game there was an update on Rose’s status, but he declined to provide specifics and directed all questions to Altman, who told a pool reporter prior to the game that more information would be released Sunday. Rose left the team on Nov. 22 to debate his future given his latest injury and team officials privately believed at the time he was leaning toward retirement.

3. Rose apparently had a change of heart. His shoe contract might have helped persuade him.
