The much-anticipated million dollar tournament finished in thrilling fashion on Sunday as Overseas Elite defeated Team 23 67-65 to be crowned champions at The Basketball Tournament and earning the $1 million prize.
In a tournament that fielded 97 teams and over 125 players who have had NBA or NBA D-League experience, it was Overseas Elite led by former St.John’s player D.J. Kennedy’s 24 points that emerged as the winner.
It was a clutch finish at Fordham University in the Bronx and things got very heated near the end. The stakes were extremely high in this one and the atmosphere was great, so you can imagine why guys were going at each other the way they were.
This team was made up of elite players that are currently playing professional basketball at a high level in Europe. Some of them have had stints in the NBA and D-League as well.
Overseas Elite will split the $1 million prize among it’s eight players, head coach and general manger, meaning every player on the team walked away with about $100,000.
