Nick Young Will Opt Out Of Deal With Lakers, Become a Free Agent

The Lakers are going through some changes this offseason and are trying to make a big splash. Veteran swingman Nick Young, one of the most charismatic players on the squad, has opted out of his deal with the Lakers and will become a free agent. After having some down years under Byron Scott, Young rejuvenated himself when Luke Walton decided to utilize his talents. Via ESPN:

Lakers guard Nick Young will decline his $5.6 million player option to become an unrestricted free agent, his agent Mark Bartelstein said.

Young, 32, faced a deadline of June 21 to make a decision on his option. Had the nine-year guard, who averaged 13.2 points in 60 games last season, opted to decline his player option, he would have hit the open market July 1.

In four seasons with the Lakers, Young started 71 of the 220 games he appeared in, averaging 24.5 minutes and 13.1 points per game.
