24/7-365. Basketball Lives Here.
University of Washington signee Michael Porter Jr. made a strong case for the best player in the Class of 2017 on Friday night as he turned in a dominant 35 point and 21 rebound performance to lead Nathan Hale High School to a 74-61 win over reigning state champion Rainier Beach. In front of a packed house at Nathan Hale, his college coaching staff and Clippers owner Steve Ballmer in attendance, Porter Jr. drained the Rainier Beach defense with his explosiveness and versatility.
By playing his senior year at Nathan Hale, Porter has the ability to change the landscape of high school basketball in the state of Washington, even if it’s just for one season. Last year at this time, Rainier Beach defeated Nathan Hale by more than 70 points. Fast forward a year later and MPJ has Hale looking like the favorite to win the state title in 2016-17.
The 18-year-old is currently ranked No. 2 on the ESPN Top 100 and is projected to be a top three pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
