Jim Buss Takes Shots At Dwight Howard: “He Was Never Really A Laker”

Los Angeles Lakers Introduce Dwight Howard

The 2012-13 NBA season was one to forget for the Los Angeles Lakers and its fans. After acquiring Dwight Howard, Steve Nash, firing Mike Brown and hiring new head coach Mike D’Antoni the Los Angeles Lakers finished 45-37, Kobe Bryan tore his Achilles before the Playoffs and the Lakers were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the Playoffs.  Than Dwight Howard left to Houston after playing just 1 season for the Lakers.

The man that took heat all season long for the Lakers nightmare season was the owner Jim Buss. Many feel that Buss could have kept Dwight happy and the Lakers would be one of the most unstoppable teams in the NBA had Phil Jackson been hired instead of Mike D’Antoni. When it was decision time for Dwight Howard the Lakers started a campaign called “Stay Dwight” and posted billboards all over the city, many die hard Laker fans weren’t to fond of this because they felt it wasn’t something such a royal and dominant organization should have to do to keep a superstar on the team. It was very un Laker like. This whole season was very un Laker like and the “Stay D12” campaign didn’t sit to well with a lot of people.

But now that Dwight is gone and ready to start fresh in Houston the Lakers owner Jim Buss had some interesting things to say about Dwight.
As Per The Hollywood Report:

Jim insists he’s just following his father’s blueprint, but the Howard situation suggests he missed a page. Instead of Jim spending time with Howard, the team launched a widely derided media campaign that implored “Stay” on billboards. After Howard bolted, Jim turned on his former star, saying he wasn’t surprised or dismayed. “He was never really a Laker,” says Jim. “He was just passing through.”

This doesn’t make Jim Buss any more likable. First they wanted him, than they failed to keep him happy, than they begged him to stay, than he left and now to say that he was just a rental is disrespectful!

The first step to growing and moving forward is owning up to your mistakes. Jim Buss instead takes shots at Dwight, he dropped the ball with him big time and to say these things after all that says a lot about the guy and perhaps a lot about the future of the Los Angeles Lakers. How will they move forward and keep the ship running smoothly if Jim Buss can’t put his massive ego away?

The entire Dwight Howard saga confirms that the Jim Buss is definitely a problem. The Los Angeles Lakers could have done some special things had Dwight Howard stayed but he left $30 million on the table to go play in Houston, he now seems at peace, excited to play basketball in Houston and seems ready to silence a lot of  people like Jim Buss next season!
