A few hours after reports surfaced that the Houston Rockets and Ty Lawson were working on a buyout, the team waived guard Marcus Thorton.
The 28-year-old sharpshooter was sent to the Pistons in a three-team deal which didn’t go through due to Donatas Motiejunas not passing his physical in Detroit.
Thorton will become a free agent once he clears waivers. Ty Lawson is expected to join him. Via Yahoo Sports:
Thornton’s role had diminished with the Rockets, and he had been part of the rescinded three-team trade that included the Detroit Pistons. Thornton hadn’t returned to the active roster since Detroit voided the deal that sent him and forward Donatas Motiejunas to the Pistons.
Detroit didn’t pass Motiejunas’ back on a physical.
The Rockets and guard Ty Lawson have also begun talks on a contract buyout, the Vertical reported.
If Thornton clears waivers, he will be eligible to sign with a team and be added to its playoff roster.
