Fantasy Tourney: Which Region Would Have The Best All-Time NBA Squad?

One of our hottest debates behind the scenes at Ball Don’t Stop has always been over which region/state/city produced the best NBA talent and which area would assemble the best all-time squad for a tournament. Of course, like a lot of things, this is a never ending debate because this tourney will never actually go down in real life, and even if it did, it would only include modern day players. So, we picked the five best and a sixth man from 20 different regions and are decided to launch the Ball Don’t Stop Fantasy Regional Tournament, an imaginary tournament compiled of the best players (in their prime) from each major hoops area on one squad, going at it against other regions to determine who has the best squad. Voting will take place on our Instagram (comment section and story), as well as of our Facebook and Twitter. The fans will decide who wins each matchup and advances to the next round.

Assembling some of these squads was an extremely difficult task; there were literally multiple snubs on each team. However, we tried to make every regions team make as much sense as possible.

With the exception of a few scenarios, each selection was based more on where the player grew up and identified with, rather than where he was born. For example: Michael Jordan and Carmelo Anthony were born in New York, but MJ moved to North Carolina as a toddler and Melo moved to Baltimore at a young age. Both their hometowns are different from their actual birth place. Some fans were furious that Anthony wasn’t on the Tri-State squad, but they are probably unaware of the fact that Melo has a Baltimore tattoo on his neck either.

Another tricky pick was Stephen Curry. The two-time MVP was born in Akron, Ohio, but spent a lot of his chilhood in North Carolina. However, it would be a crime to snub John Wall or Chris Paul who were both BORN in North Carolina and grew up there as opposed to Curry who was just there during his fathers nine year run on the Hornets. CP3 and Wall were NC to the core and Steph, who also spent a lot of his childhood in Toronto, was not and therefore it made sense for him to be placed on his birthplace states squad (Plus it makes this whole thing more interesting ;).

Again, majority of these players were born and raised in the citys they are placed on, with the exception of a very few.

**We treated North Carolina/South Carolina as one region and Virginia/West Virginia as one region. The Tri-State is made up of the best from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut**

The tournament kicks off at 3 pm PST on December 8, 2017 on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Once a day, two teams will be put against each other and fans in the comments sections, as well as through the voting poll on our IG story, will make their pick. We will also be doing giveaways throughout the contest, especially near the final rounds. Check out the seeding above and the squads below.
