Dirk Nowitzki May Retire at the End of This Season

Dirk Nowitzki has missed 19 of the Mavs 24 games so far this season due to an Achilles tendon injury. The future Hall of Fame forward is expected to play out his two-year, $50 million deal and retire at the end of the 2018 season, but the way things are looking, Nowitzki says he may call it a career after this season. Via SportBild:

“If things don’t go so well and it hurts everywhere, it could be that 2017 will be the end,” the forward told German magazine Sport Bild.

“Actually, my plan is to complete the 20 years and play for Dallas until 2018.

“But just because I have signed a two-year contract doesn’t automatically mean that I will play for two years. It could happen next year.”
