Danny Ferry Said Luol Deng Has ‘Some African In Him’

It turns out that one of the reasons Bruce Levenson was forced to sell the Hawks was because Hawks GM Danny Ferry made offensive comments regarding former free agent Luol Deng this summer. Ferry’s comments triggered the team into an investigation, which led to Hawks owner Bruce Levenson admitting to a racist e-mail he sent to Ferry and fellow owners in 2012.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting that this past June, during a conference call with Hawks owners, Ferry was reading a scouting report on then-free agent forward Luol Deng to Hawks management and ownership when he made the offensive comments.

“He’s still a young guy overall,” Ferry said, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe said. “He’s a good guy overall. But he’s not perfect. He’s got some African in him. And I don’t say that in a bad way.”

Deng who was born in Sudan, went onto sign with the Miami Heat. Ferry will be punished by the Hawks for these comments, the Hawks don’t have a very good reputation right now when it comes to their front office.
