Carmelo Anthony became Team USA’s all-time leading scorer on Wednesday in Rio during their matchup against Australia. However, that almost wasn’t the storyline we would be talking about today. The Australians led by Patty Mills, had the US where they wanted them in this one, leading 54-49 at halftime. However, Melo and the US came out firing in the third quarter opening the second half on a 9-0 run.
But, the US still only led 70-67 going into the final quarter, where Melo would save the day and break the game open by scoring 14 of the United States 28 fourth quarter points. Kyrie Irving hit a clutch shot and the US escaped with a 98-88 victory. Check out the highlights below.
