Anthony Davis Agrees to $145 Million Extension With Pelicans

Anthony Davis is considered by many the basketball worlds next big thing, and the Pelicans know this more than anyone. A few weeks ago head coach Alvin Gentry claimed Davis was the best player in the world not named LeBron James. An argument can definitely be made.

A few hours after free agency began Davis and the Pelicans agreed on a max deal for 5-years and $145 million. The 22-year old just got PAID.

Davis is coming off a career year in which he averaged 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game while leading the Pels to the NBA Playoffs. Via Yahoo Sports!

New Orleans Pelicans All-Star forward Anthony Davis has reached agreement on a maximum five-year extension that could be worth in excess of $145 million, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

The contract will have a player option after the fourth year, sources said.

Davis and his agent, Thad Foucher of Wasserman Media Group, met with New Orleans general manager Dell Demps and coach Alvin Gentry for a dinner in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Wednesday night and reached an agreement after midnight ET, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Davis is eligible for the Derrick Rose rule that allows for him to occupy 30 percent of the Pelicans’ salary cap.

We fully expect Davis to take his game to another level this off-season and come back worth every penny of this massive deal.
