Amare Stoudemire to Sign With Mavericks

Amare Stoudemire was officially released by the New York Knicks on Monday, and he was quick to make his next move. The six-time All-Star has reached an agreement with the Dallas Mavericks on a veterans minimum deal for the remainder of the season.

The 32-year old forward also drew some interest from the Suns, Spurs and Clippers, but his heart was in Texas well before his release. STAT will be backing up Tyson Chandler, as well as playing the power forward spot behind Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas.

Stoudemire, who negotiated a buyout with the New York Knicks over the weekend and was officially waived Monday, committed to the Mavs for the remainder of the season on Monday.

The contract will not become official until Stoudemire clears waivers on Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET, making him a free agent. His $23.4 million salary essentially makes the waivers process a formality. earlier reported Stoudemire’s commitment to the Mavs. His deal with Dallas is worth $477,150, according to sources.

The Los Angeles Clippers and the Phoenix Suns were among the playoff contenders that expressed interest in Stoudemire, a six-time All-Star who averaged 12 points and 6.8 rebounds in 36 games with the Knicks this season.
